HDR over display port

Hello,

I have a Titan X Pascal graphics card with the club 3d display port to HDMI 2.0 convertor going to a 4k Samsung HDR display. There are a few games for PC that have an HDR option. I was wondering if the club 3d adapter will pass the HDR data on through the display port, adapter, and onto the display?

Thanks!

Hi Kahless,

Although the chip inside is HDMI2.0a compatible, i don’t think that will work which is why we currently do not communicate this.
R&D needs to do more testing on that and we probably need to have adjusted firmwar for that. So “work in progress” so to say, but i do not expect this to be done anywhere soon (not before end Q2).

My current setup is:
2 X 1080 running in SLI Mode
HDMI Port to 40″ Samsung JU7100 HDR Capable display
Club3D Display Port to HDMI to my Samsung 65″ K8000 HDR Capable Display

Testing with:
Shadow Warrior 2 and Resident Evil VII both games support HDR

Results:

Running the game using the GTX 1080 HDMI Port no issues with the HDR they run smooth and looks fantastic.

In the other hand using the Club 3D DP to HDMI adapter is not the case, if I enable HDR on any of these to games it results in a screen with artifacts and lines so basically IS NOT WORKING.

Any news of the firmware update? or is this adapter is going to support HDR in the future or it is a hardware limitation?

See picture attached.

can you try with SLI Disabled … i have heard more issues with Crossfire / SLI configurations …

on 01-02-2017

Hi!

I tried already with SLI disable and I have the same results if I hook my display through the HDMI port I have HDR working with no issues.

Using the adapter I have the results posted on the image above.

I did the same exact testing with those games. With hdr enabled with the same adapter I didnt the get those lines but the picture was super dark.

So the whole reason i bought the cac-1070 was because it supports HDR as shown on the large pic upto 12bpc and now i have it i get this isnt advertised thats kind of a jerk move.
would be nice if you take down the pic or make it clear hdr does not work im not very happy with this purchase. Another question support didnt answer or evade does this add input lag? and if so how much? since there is mention of a firmware update how does this work and how can i check the current firmware on it?

Where do you see that it says it supports HDR?  I looked all over the product description of the cac-1070 and don’t see anywhere where it says anything about HDR.

its hard to miss its in the giant white pic at the bottom where they have the table of resolutions and HDR standards listed as supported both 10 and 12bpc

I found the table at the bottom but there isn’t anything about HDR in it.  Says it supports RGB, which is a color standard, and various other color formats like 4:2:0, 4:4:4 at different resolutions. All of which have nothing to do with HDR.  I’m I missing it somewhere else on the page?  I literally see nothing about HDR – High Dynamic Range.  Your only going to get 10 or 12bit color at 4:2:0.  Anything above that exceeds the 18gbps bandwidth of HDMI 2.0 which doesn’t have anything to do with the club3D adapter.

4:2:0  4:2:2 are chroma subsampling etc something i dont need since it needs to be RGB anyway (LCD Display) and in the table it shows like i said both hdr formats at 4k aswell. also as far as i know for something to be UHD standard (4k reso) it also must be able to do a certain ammount of colors which i bet is 10bit minimum

UHD standard is only for resolution not color depth. I have a Samsung ju7500 UHD that is only an 8bit screen.. I also have a Samsung js9000 and ks8000 that are both 10bit. LG makes UHD screens that are 12bit panels. On my 10bit screens 10bit is only selectable in the drivers if I lower chroma to 4:2:0 and refresh rate to 30hz because anything higher exceeds HDMI 2.0 standards. The adapter is capable of all of this within the HDMI 2.0 specs. It just doesn’t pass the HDR meta data on through the display port but to be fair it doesn’t actually claim to do this.

FYI Samsung JU series if the use TH01 Panel it is a 10Bit panel made by Samsung.

Good to know! Thanks. Not sure which mine is I sent my ju7500 to be a bedroom TV where as the ks8000 and js9000 to do the heavy lifting in the living room and computer desk.

you contradict everything support emailed me saying HDR doesnt work and is planned.
so why they advertise it that both 10 and 12 bit on the page is supported beats me
i feel like i bought a product and doing beta testing. are you from club3d?
if so why arent the other questions answered like how do i check current firmware?
does this add input lag and if so how much? where do you download the firmware and how do you update it?

No I’m not from club3d.

As far as I know you have to request the firmware and they email it to you.

Your screen has to support 10bit and 12bit color in order for that to be selectable on your graphics cards drivers. Just because it’s 4k UHD doesn’t mean it’s an 8bit or 12bit panel.

on 01-02-2017

Yeah i know that mine is 10bpc thats why i bought this adaptor,
so i find it quite stupid club3d emails me saying it doesnt work and its not advertised
clearly they arent looking at their own site where it says upto 12bpc.
sofar club3d didnt offer anything no firmware no nothing not even hope this will work eventually so yeah im paying to be in a beta which wasnt advertised thanks club3d.

Hi HellsAngel,
The adapter does support 12Bit BPC but does not forward the HDR data.(Support for 10/12bits bpc is not the same as support for HDR.)
Iw ill make sure [email protected] will send over the latest firmware with instructions right away.

on 02-02-2017

Thanks ive got the latest firmware now also managed to solve my problem and get HDR working (not because of the firmware or adaptor) so im good. However none of this is on the product page its great is supports HDR on paper and you saying it does but in practise if it doesnt send out the critical metadata, driver nor display will show HDR.
so the product page is very misleading how it does 10 and 12bpc while sofar it just doesnt even support mailed me this answer that THAT part doesnt work and might be expected to work in 3 months or so.

So there is support for HDR? please let me know is there a way they can send me the latest firmware with instructions also?

on 03-02-2017

No there is no HDR whatsoever im just in a lucky position i could change some things around use this adaptor for another cable and maintain hdr (adaptor is now on a non hdr device) the only thing support told me is be patient and maybe in 3 months you may get hdr but i wouldnt get my hopes up as its product page is very misleading which i bet is the same reason you bought this aswell for hdr capabilities.
