MBP 15″ (Sierra, 2016) to Benq 27″ BL2711U 4K monitor connectivity advice needed

Hello,
After some very frustrating experiences with the new Macbook Pro 15″ (late 2016 – Sierra 10.12.4) regarding the overall connectivity with almost any external device I am stuck in attempt to connect it to my Benq 27″ BL2711U UHD 4K monitor. I tried at first and (naively) by the recommendation from Apple reseller to connect it with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2, then I bought quite expensive StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DP adapter that could not even send the signal, and as I found later is unsupported by Apple. Now I am suggested, again by the Apple authorities, to go for a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and spend another 70 Euros, but after going trough dreadful customer reviews on product page it just made me uncertain that such next step will make any difference. Could you, anyone, please advise on possible final and fully working solution? I just stumble upon CAC-1507 – The Club 3D USB 3.1 Type-C to DisplayPort and before I purchase yet another adapter would be great to get some additional opinion and suggestions in hope that this time it might actually work. Many thanks in advance 🙂

Good day tomi,

The CAC-1507 is a USB Type C to Displayport Adapter and is Thunderbolt 3 compatible.
So yes that will work. I have heard that Sierra 10.12.3 was a bit more “friendly” with regards to conenctivity than 10.12.4 is, but since Thunderbolt 3 fully supports DP1.2 the adapter will work.
The only thing i can imagin not working “out of the box” is that the system might not recognize the EDID coming from the Monitor (that sometimes happens with new monitors/tv’s) and therefor you will not be able to select the 4K 60Hz option on your MAC, but with programs like SwitchResX i am sure we will get it going 🙂

Hello MST1407 🙂

Many thanks for a prompt reply, much appreciated.
Would you be so kind and give me your best adapter solution under the circumstances, or if there is anything more convenient than the CAC-1507, including software as mentioned -SwitchResX-, please?
I will go for it and let you know as soon as I get the results.
Here are the hardware and compatibility details:
