Hello Community,

I come from Germany, please apologize my tongue.

My target is to setup a Multi-Monitor-Trading-System with 6 Monitors and a “Radeon HD 7850 Eyefinity 6 CGAX-7856M6 – PCI Express 3.0 – 2GB – GDDR5 – 256BIT” in the mid of my PC as the Heart&Center…

The critical questions I faced as a “non-professional” are the “compatibility” of the graphic-card with my mainboard, PCI 3.0 etc.pp., and the possible adapters, active or not active, and then on the “compatibility” of the whole graphic-system with the my choosen displays/monitors.
First here is a short overview of my “desired floor-plan” for my system J

Mainboard/CPU:

ASUS H97-PLUS, Sockel 1150, ATX & Intel i5 Quad-Core i5-4460

Grafic:

Radeon HD 7850 Eyefinity 6 CGAX-7856M6 – PCI Express 3.0 – 2GB – GDDR5 – 256BIT

Monitors:

6x Samsung Monitor S22C650D, they have a “Displayport” I think !?

Adapters,

maybe important to make a connection from the “Graficcard-Mini-Displayports” to the “Monitor-Displayports”…

6x “Club 3D MINI DISPLAYPORT to DISPLAYPORT active Adapter”

and for the 2 meters between…

6x “LogiLink DisplayPort 2m Cable,(20pin)”

Powersuply:

“be quiet! PURE POWER L8 500W”

And last but not least Mr. Gates´ “Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit”

Many Thanks & I will be online here to check the incoming…

Please ask if you need some more background-information…

Hi,
Welcome to Insights!
The main board that you want to choose is fine with the Eyefinity 6 card. I suggest to disable the onboard graphics as it uses the Intel GPU and boot primary to the PCI-E for your graphics.
Now, since the Samsung has already DisplayPort™ inputs, all you need are 6 Mini-DisplayPort™ to DisplayPort™cables, make sure that you buy them with the length you require. No adapters here are required. The other option is to buy Mini-DisplayPort™ to Displayport™ adapters and regular DisplayPort™ cables.
We recommend the CAC-1110 and the CAC-1064

Now for the power supply I suggest to buy for the 500W a single rail design or a multiple rail such as the one you are choosing with more power. The power supply Pure Power L8 500W has 2 rails and the second rail, which will be powering your GPU external power plus any additional 12v components you place gives you 20A or 240Watt (20×12). Depending on your configuration such DVD-ROM, number of drives etc you might run a bit short on power. The 12V1 has 28A which powers your CPU, PCI-E etc. This will be sufficient for a single graphics card configuration but if you add two graphics card you might run short of power (each PCI-E 16x uses 75W or 6.25A (75/12).

For the Windows 7 64 bit is fine to run 6 displays.

Conclusion
MAINBOARD: ok
GRAPHICS: OK
DISPLAYS: OK
ACCESSORIES: That will depend which road you want to take (adapters + cables or just cables)
POWER: Not convinced if you plan upgrades or have many components in the system.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

First many thanks for your fast answer.
It is very informative for me. Hope the community will
have some more time for me if i came back with some
“Software-Installation-Questions”…

Hi,

a short question within…
if i take 6x SAMSUNG MONITOR S22C650D, what is the maximum resolution on each display with the “Radeon HD 7850 Eyefinity 6 CGAX-7856M6 – PCI Express 3.0 – 2GB – GDDR5 – 256BIT” ???

my positioning is 3×2 displays, 3 horizontal in 2 arrays. that means, if i take the maximum resolution 1920×1080 FullHD of each display, i have a resolution of the “whole screen with 6 displays” of 5760×2160 pixels!!!

what is the maximum resolution-“power” of the “Radeon HD 7850 Eyefinity 6 CGAX-7856M6 – PCI Express 3.0 – 2GB – GDDR5 – 256BIT” ?

does the graficcard use the “whole possible resolution” of my “6-multiscreen” ?

thanks for your answer

Hi,
You can use on all displays the maximum resolution supported. In our case if it is 1920x1080p then you can get 6 without issues.
If you want to create an Eyefinity 6 by creating a SLS panel at 5760×2160 that is not a problem either, that is one of the best selling features of this card.
Now the maximum resolution on each DP port is 4096×2160 at 60Hz thanks for to the DisplayPort™ 1.2 specification so in theory you can arrange each display at this resolution. The main problem with this resolution is that it might not be appropriate for some applications that require heavy use of the GPU as the array of multiple displays at 4K it might create an issue on performance.
We have made some videos on our youtube channel for Eyefinity 6 cards which you can see;
Playing 6 simultaneous video streams at 1080p on youtube. This is using the HD 7870 Eyefinity 6.
Playing BF4 with the Radeon R9 290X with the MST Hub, creating an Eyefinity 6 setup.
Testing Windows 8 Beta with Eyefinity 6

tx for your answer Paul!

that means, if we leave the performance and/or video-aspect byside, the graficcard supported 4096×2160 at 60Hz on “each” of the 6 displays…

that means with 6 monitors in a 3×2 array a maximum of 12288×6480 pixels is possible???

it would be enough for 6x 55″-monitors in their highest resolution, really???

in this case its no problem for my 6×22″ – stocktrading-desk you mean…?

for me the max-resolution on each 22″-screen is the most important thing, cause
it makes no sense, if i have excel-sheets and thousand columns of numbers and my 6
displays only have a resoultion of 60%, that means for example 1200×750 pixels instead of the 1920×1080 possible on each…

what means SLS-Panel???
I want all 6 displays (3×2) as 1 big screen/desktop.
my mousepointer should move from the upper-right to the lower-left corner across all
used displays, that means eyefinity, or? 🙂

sorry for maybe some stupid questions, but i have to know it exactly, no compromises!!!

p.s.
its a “Radeon HD 7850 Eyefinity 6 CGAX-7856M6 – PCI Express 3.0 – 2GB – GDDR5 – 256BIT”,
not a 7870 !!!

Yes I know. The only videos we have is the 7870

I think the size will be 12288×4320 if you arrange it as 3×2.
Your monitors are ok for the HD 7850 Eyefinity 6.
I have never tried excel at those resolutions so it is hard for me to say heheh..
In regards to SLS means Single Large Surface which you create a single desktop out of multiple displays. Same as  you describe the 1 big screen/desktop and yes, your mouse should behave in the same manner as you are using a single desktop.
There are no stupid questions when it comes to a heavy investment as you mention.
We are here to help.
