CAC-1085 and Nvidia drivers 457.09 missing resolutions.

25 on 31-10-2020

Nvidia drivers 457.09 are not fully compatible with the Club3d CAC-1085 Display port to HDMI 2.1 adaptor and the RTX 2080 Ti. This driver removes 4k@120Hz and 4K@100Hz resolutions. The resolutions are restored when rolling back to driver 456.98. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

i see the same issue too and reverting to 456.98 resolves it. others have reported issues with certain refresh rates on different displays as high as 240hz using DSC (which the CAC-1085 also uses for certain modes). there was supposedly a fix for DSC and black screen issues in this driver. That could be related to this issue and they either broke their own driver, or they prohibited certain DSC-capable devices from negotiating a connection using the latest driver.

I was thinking along similar lines with the DSC changes. Hopefully Club3D can work out a fix internally or with Nvidia to correct this issue.

Good luck getting a response from this graveyeard.

Club 3d don’t even make firmware updates available unless you email them…

It’s outright ludicrous.

I am having the same issue with the CAC-1085. I am running a 2080 Ti and 457.09 is stuck on HDMI 2.0b resolutions while 456.98 allows RGB 4K@120Hz.

Latest Nvidia drivers 457.30 also do not work properly. I’ve gone back again to 456.98 which are the last to show all the needed resolutions.

on 13-11-2020

On the Linux side, I just updated from 455.28 to 455.38, and the same thing happened. No matter what I do, setting custom modelines or whatnot, all I get is max 4K@60Hz

(agh… didn’t mean to reply to this message directly, sorry… misleading reply button 🙂 )

Club 3D CAC-1085 with…

  • nVidia Game Ready Driver 457.30 – Nov 09, 2020 – LIMITED.
  • nVidia Game Ready Driver 457.09 – Oct 29, 2020 – LIMITED.
  • nVidia Game Ready Driver 456.71 – Oct 09, 2020 – WORKING.

The option “Perform a clean installation” was selected each time.

In the nVidia Game Ready Driver versions after 456.71, the resolutions and color depths and frame rates are limited. Rolling back to 456.71 reverted the limitations. Further description of the limitations:
The resolution 4k (3840×2160) is limited to 60 Hz, and can only be increased to 120 Hz by creating a custom resolution profile. In that case, the option to go above 8 bit-color with RGB or YCbCr444 rather than being able to select 12-bit color, is also lost.

I expect working with Club 3D support and nVidia support on this issue will be the best way to resolve this.

Thank you so much for that information.

Got the Samsung Q95T 75″ today, and bought the CAC-1085 with the CAC-1373 a few days before, running on Titan RTX. I couldn’t wrap my head around what is going on, checking with CRU from https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU seeing only HDMI limited capabilities, tried to hack the monitor information added custom resoltions to get RGB, thought “oh shit, maybe cable too long”… And then got lucky to find this thread.

Confirming: Driver 456.71 works “right out the the box”. I will try the Hotfix-Driver 456.98 when something weird happens since it was mentioned in another thread as working.

Still broken as of 460.79.

I understand a lot of the blame probably falls on Nvidia, but being months and a number of driver updates in, is there any acknowledgement of the issue from Club 3D?

We are reaching (have reached?) the point where it is disingenuous to say that the product works with Nvidia cards.

Once again no reply from Club3d – not even a firmware section to update the adapter.

I guess the only solution is to either stay on older nvidia drivers, or buy a new 30xx series card.

A third option is to wait for the Bizlink Adapter

Hi, i have some news about this !!!!!

After completing and sending the “NVIDIA display driver form” corresponding to the 2 lastest driver releases, 2 weeks ago i reciebed an email of [email protected] asking me to send them the full kernel memory dump to try to investigate it, and i did it.

today i recieved a new email saying:

Hello,

I have added the bug to the open issues list on our forums for tracking purposes:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/429825/geforce-46140-game-ready-driver-feedback-thread-re/

Displayport-to-HDMI 2.1 protocol converter clock limited to 600MHz pixel clock [3202060]

So hopefully, nvidia driver team is now aware of this issue and will try to get a fix for it 😉

on 22-02-2021

Unbelievable! 😀

Lets hope we’ll get a working driver update at some point, especially as the need for HDMI 2.1 increases.

on 25-02-2021

Thanks so much for the update, great that it is now an issue that they will fix hopefully sooner than later.

Great news, thanks for your iniciative. I would have expected that Club 3D would be the first to nudge them to repair it, since it is clearly issue on Nvidia side.

And maybe they have contacted them, but Nvidia has been playing dead bug so this  (and similar) adapters get bad reputation, and force users to rather buy new GPU, than using the old one. Who knows.

Hi, did anyone tried new GeForce 466.11 WHQL drivers?

It states “adds support for extended DP-to-HDMI 2.1 PCON clock frequency range to better support 8K TVs”, so a guess this should address the problem we had.

I couldnt test it yet……

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After almost half a year, we get again our Club3D CAC-1085 working as intended!!!

Just installed a few minutes ago driver version 466.11 dch and got my 3 X LG OLED55C9 working in surround mode at 11520×2160@120HZ.

Now time to enjoy before it gets broken again ……

on 24-06-2021

Just picked up a CAC 1085 to use with my LG B9 and RTX 3090 since my hdmi 2.1 input is already being used. When using the adapter, blacks are washed out to a gray and there’s a lot of signal loss moments. Is this supposed to be a firmware issue? I’ve already emailed Club3D about getting a firmware update.

on 24-06-2021
blacks are washed out to a gray and there’s a lot of signal loss moments. From t37scott

If you enable 10 Bit and enable HDR mode throughout in Windows it is normal. Set to 10 bit if fine, but disable HDR. In detail this is WAY more complex with Information fields provided by the Monitor via HDMI and the way Windows interprets those fields. AFAIK: Windows does it correctly, but is picky and most HDR TVs supply wrong or no values at all. Another fix: Use nvidia color correction.

Please google for that issue, it is well known and there is already a lot of information on that.

on 24-06-2021

I’ve tried it in 10 bit without HDR, and there’s no change. I’ve googled and looked at various Reddit, AVS forum, and Club3D posts, none of which talk about these washed out blacks and how to fix them. It could be that I overlooked a post but this adapter seems to have plenty of issues, so there’s a lot to look into.

on 24-06-2021

Your google-fu is broken. It is not an issue of this adapter, that does it’s job fine, it is a general issue which hits NVidia 3xxx and current AMD cards as well. Tons of hits, and a lot of reddit threads. https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+10+hdr+washed+out+colors

Synaptics has some chips that can output HDMI 2.1 VMM8210, VMM8100, VMM6210, VMM6100 but I don’t know how well they work compared to the RTD2173 chip.
