HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.2 ?

Hello ! I’ve seen this product of yours which does exactly the opposite of what I’m looking to get.

I have a HDMI 2.0 exit on my new laptop and I have a LG 34UC94 ( 3440x1440px ) monitor which has DisplayPort 1.2 and 2 x HDMI 1.4 connectors.

Up until now, with the old laptop, I was using the DP 1.2 to get 4K@60hz. Given the fact that laptop now has HDMI 2.0, I have a HDMI 2.0 compatible cable, but .. the monitor has 1.4 HDMI connectors therefore only 4K@30hz support.

Now, I found this product of yours which does the opposite.

http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/displayport-12-to-hdmi-20-uhd-active-adapter.html

I know it’s a dumb question ( and a long shot for me ) but I see it has a female HDMI connector, is it possible to connect it the other way arround ? Insert my HDMI 2 cable from laptop into the adapter, then go with the DP cable towards the monitor ?

If not, why can’t I find anything on the internet to solve a HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 ? Is it an expensive thing to acquire ? Is it impossible to do ? Is there any technology limitation ? I think it’s possible because I have found this: https://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/hdmi-displayport-converter-4k~HD2DP

But it only gets 4K@30Hz... and it gives me hope for something to work with 60hz.

Why is there only a DP to HDMI and not the other way around ?

I’m very confused what to do with this laptop ( It’s a Asus Zenbook UX501VW ) without any miniDisplayPort unfortunately.

What’s to be done, any advice is appreciated !

Good day Eduard,
Sorry but you cannot use our CAC-1070 or CAC-1170 to convert HDMI2.0 into DP, it is only way way conversion.
We do not have HDMI2.0 to DP 1.2 converters. It should be possible for sure, however you are the first ever i got the question from and i think that is the biggest issue … lack of demand.

on 07-04-2016

I understand ! Thanks for the fast reply.

I just didnt find anything.. I can’t find 4K monitors on HDMI 2.0 to support 60hz, that’s why I’m so confused about people only looking for the opposite product.

I have HDMI 2.0 laptop ( no DP ) , I have the HDMI 2.0 cable, but the monitor is on DP. HDMI 2.0 monitors just start getting on the market as far as I know and it’s very expensive.

This is why I’m confused, as people look for something else. What’s the point of converting DP to HDMI if HDMI does not support 4K@60hz unless it’s HDMI 2.0 which is pretty rare on monitors at the moment.

Am I getting it all wrong ?

on 11-07-2016

Just wanted to post that I’m also interested in a HDMI 2.0 to DP. I learned the hard way that your adapter doesn’t work the other way around and had to return it.

on 22-09-2016

Also just wasted 60$ on this cable. Hoping I can return, I am like most people right now, I have a display port monitor which supports 4k 60hz, but the hdmi port only does 4k 30hz. I need an HDMI 2.0 to Display Port 1.2 to be able to use ANY of these new consoles properly with my 4k monitor. Huge letdown when I got my cable delivered to find out it is completely useless. There will be MASSIVE demand for this adapter in the future as virtually anyone gaming on monitor instead of tv with a console is going to be SOL without one.

Hi Eduard,

Just a look at your Asus Zenbook UX501VW. Wow nice 🙂
I saw it has a USB Type C output with Thunderbold 3 support, which means it supports Displayport Alt mode as well. So to connect your monitor with DP Input you can use the CAC-1507
http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/club-3d-usb-31-type-c-to-displayport-12-uhd.html

on 18-05-2016

I am looking for it too, the reason for what seems to be lack of demand is that the majority of gamers screens released in the past 2 years use display port for 4K and not hdmi 2. The moment devices that support 4k over hdmi 2 increase (I personally don’t have a single hdmi 2 device today, all my 4k devices are display port) expect to get more questions like Eduard’s. You will most likely see the curve go up if Sony goes and launch the rumored PS4.5, many gamers would want to use their existing 4k monitors for that

My recommendation and to avoid confusion, create a single box that works both ways 🙂

on 19-05-2016

I agree with sehs33.  I have the ROG Swift PG27AQ which does 4k/60 on the DP, but only 4k/24 on HDMI.  I was planning on buying the Playstation 4.5 when it comes out, and hooking it up to this monitor with some sort of hdmi 2.0 to DP 1.2 adapter.  I hope that by the time the PS 4.5 is released that there will be such an adapter!

on 01-06-2016

I am in the same boat with the asus pb287q wqiting for the ps4.5

Dear Club-3D team,
I am desperately searching for HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.2 adapter supporting UHD 60Hz. I need 100+ pcs. Please let me know if this at least partly solves lack of demand issue and this product could appear on a production line. Thank you

on 12-07-2016

Good day remigijus01,
sorry but our CAC-1070 and CAC-1170 only go 1 way, from DP to HDMI 2.0
i will check with purchase if there is a plan for HDMI2.0 to DP 1.2 again if we can come up with an estimate date for such a product

on 12-07-2016

Thanks. I will be waiting for a message in case something pops up. After spending hours of searching on the net for a solution, I think that there’s a big potential for this product

on 22-09-2016

PLEASE MAKE THIS CABLE, there will be massive demand soon because of the new consoles.

on 07-09-2017

Even if there is no actual conversion chip made by one of the big companies that is expected to come out, couldnt you just by a small fpga and make a “custom” conversion chip for your product yourself? This would probably be much faster to market and easier to do for now instead of you yourselves creating a new converter chip from scratch or waiting for one of the big companies to create the chip.

Hi, firstly i have to say it took me a while to find this thread considering i spent the last few hours trying to look for a solution to solve this issue. With increasing monitors support of 4k, displayport seems like the only viable option which allows 4K@60hz. Most of these monitors also have hdmi but most are only 1.4.

Secondly, If a Hdmi to Displayport converter can achieve 4k@30hz, then i’m confident that 3d Club can come up with something that can achive 60hz. I ended up buying the new Active displayport 1.2 to hdmi 2.0 adapter only to find out it won’t work. My mistake, but it burnt me more when i could not find an adapter which could do the opposite.

As for the demand. There are various forums i have found with this issue, but no one seems to have the best solution. These are just 2 of which i viewed a few minutes back.

Hi, I am in the same boat as all these people.
Having bought a GTX1080 Strix from Asus I find myself with 2 DP and 2 HDMI ports on my GPU… Having 3 screens (1440p @ 144Hz (with DP1.2/HDMI1.4 imputs)) I cannot go beyond 60Hz on my third monitor when connected with HDMI 1.4 thereby Nvidia Surround limits to 60Hz…

I have bought both adapters (Mini DP and DP) in hopes of connecting at 144Hz but obviously given that my source is HDMI… it seems I am out of luck.
I have no idea how come no one has come up with such an adapter yet :'(

Really looking forward to purchasing one when available

I have the same problem. I have pre-odered the new Xbox one s console its has HDMI 2.0 my monitor HDMI 1.4a. and DP 1.2.

on 12-10-2016

Sorry we do not have a HDMI2.0 to DP1.2 Adapter (yet).
There is no Chipset available yet for HDMI2.0 conversion to DP 🙁
We will start with HDMI1.4 to DP, so 3480×2160 30Hz max, that shold become available end this year. For the HDMI2.0 to DP solution that will not be any earlier then Q2 next year is my estimation.

I believe there is going to be a real race between manufacturers to make a cable (HDMI2.0 to DP)  like this.
The demand is just incredible.

Just an idea after reading more about this chip… this could be made to accept both usb (type C) or HDMI inputs outputting displayport…
This would make this product an absolute necessity for mobile uses too!!!

I too would like to purchase an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter capable of UHD 60p.

The use case I have is to connect my Eizo CG248-4K display (HDMI 1.4, DP 1.2) to a video acceleration card (such as the Blackmagic Ultra Studios, which only have HDMI and SDI outputs) in order to monitor video while editing in UHD 60p.

It does appear that the Analogix ANX7688 chipset referenced by @neo019 is capable of the appropriate conversion.  Therefore, I hope @MST1307 and the Club 3D team take up this challenge to meet the demand!

on 31-10-2016

Hi All,

That ANX7688 Chip is made for mobil devices and only supports 2 lanes over DP … so cannot be used for DP to HDMI2.0 purpose unfortunately …

We will keep at it, but so far it does not look like this will happen in 2016

I am going to chime in and make my request for this adapter as well.

I just sat down to setup a new Xbox One S with 4K out via HDMI only to discover that my 4K Dell P2415Q only supports 4K@30Hz via HDMI and 4K@60Hz via DisplayPort.

As someone else mentioned above, with the release of these .5 version consoles now supporting 4K@60Hz output via HDMI but most monitors only supporting 4K in via DisplayPort, the demand for a 4K@60Hz HDMI->DisplayPort converter is about to explode.

I know I’d buy one right now if it were available.

Thanks.

I’m just going to add to this list of people looking at games consoles with a 4k monitor. I get why the games consoles output using HDMI 2.0, it’s just frustrating that most monitors don’t have HDMI 2.0 support. Mines only 8 months old, and it would destroy me to have to buy a new one just for the new 4k consoles.

So +1 for HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 😉

Not even on 4k 30hz.

Please make a hdmi 2.0 to DP 1.2 cable that supports 60 hz.

+1 for this cable, I’d probably take 2 lol To anyone wanting to replace their Monitor with a 4k, don’t do it. TV’s are awfully slow and the picture quality was not as good. My new 4k TV also overheated trying to output the graphics from the new PS4 Pro. I also tried another monitor that suppose to do HDMI 2.0 but still didn’t work for some reason. One thing I found is that the TV I did try I had to switch it from HDMI 1.4 to 2.0 in the settings(Weird it wasn’t auto).

This already exist. There is no need for a HDMI 1.4 with 30Hz max. We need one for 60hz and HDMI 2.0!!!

You can buy one for HDMI 1.4 to Displayport with 3480×2160 @30Hz here:

Works perfectly fine, I bought this a while ago, but all people here need 60Hz, don’t waste your time to create one with 30Hz, we all need 60Hz!

Crypto90 is correct. Those of us with 4k monitors already have HDMI 1.4 ports so we have no need to buy a HDMI 1.4 to DP. I would have thought the 4k connection should be one universal cord. Not split between display ports and HDMI 2.0 crap

what is with this new Adapter “DisplayPort 1.2 Cable to HDMI 2.0 Active Adapter Club 3D CAC-1073” is an active HDMI signal converter 4k@60hz??  announced on 16.11.2016. Will this work with an 4k Display and the PS4 Pro?

on 20-11-2016

That just looks like the CAC-1070 adapter but in cable form. So no, it won’t work sadly.

on 20-11-2016

That adapter would only work for computers / consoles with DisplayPort out and a monitor / tv with HDMI 2.0. Since the playstation pro only has HDMI 2.0 out, the “Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0” cable only does the exact opposite of what we all need, rendering this cable useless for the ps4 pro. Im suprised consoles don’t do display port and pc monitors don’t do HDMI 2.0 as a basic standard for transmitting 4k signals.

on 22-11-2016

That is correct, unfortunately in this case.

@MST1407 Do you mean to say that you have an HDMI 2.0 to DP planned for the end of Q1 2017?  (I.e. connect a DisplayPort monitor to a HDMI 2.0 source?)  (Because it seems like you already offer a “DP to HDMI2.0” cable for connecting an HDMI monitor to a DisplayPort source: the one that is the subject of this thread.)

I hope this cable/adapter comes out soon. I am surly not buying a 4k tv to replace my monitor which can already do better then that. Sony and Microsoft really screwed up not including a display port on the new consoles. So much demand for this device I am really surprised it that it doesn’t exist yet.

I also need an HDMI 2.0a to miniDisplayPort active converter for my Xbox One S and my Acer B286HK 4K monitor.

on 10-12-2016

I’m in the same boat. I’m looking to connect my new Xbox One S to my Dell p2715q 4k monitor. I bought the Club3D Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 UHD (CAC-1070) thinking it would accomplish this. Obviously it doesn’t. I’m going to keep the adapter for later use connecting a PC to a TV, but I can’t believe this adapter doesn’t exist. I’ve scoured the internet for this and it appears that no one currently makes this adapter and this seems to be the most active discussion about this. The only hope I could find is this company Analogix that is supposedly making a ANX7688 chip that can perform this HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.3 Ultra-HD (4096x2160p60) conversion. This chip was obviously designed around utilizing USB C on mobile devices, but it at least appears to be a chip capable of performing the required conversion that we’re all looking for. Now it’s just the waiting game to see who will make an adapter. If anyone else finds an adapter, please update this thread.

on 10-12-2016

“I’m (almost) in the same boat”: Dell P2715Q + Playstation 4 Pro.
Do you think our monitor could show 4K resolution with HDR?
And what about HDCP 2.2?
Could 3D Club’s cabe/adapter make it for us??? 🙂

on 13-12-2016

The same here. PS4 Pro with Dell P2715Q monitor. Thanks to Sony not supporting “older” hardware (my monitor being from 2015!) I shall need an adapter to use with the monitor for 4k resolutions.

on 13-12-2016

I think Sony had no choice. 4K resolution requires the 2.0 version of HDMI. Maybe Dell, imho, has taken a strange path by having abdicated this input (P2715Q is a 4K/60hz monitor). Furthermore, DisplayPort isn´t as popular as HDMI, and including a DP output would certainly make the console more expensive (business decision).

on 19-12-2016

I don’t think HDR even exists on monitors. It’s exclusive to tv?

on 19-12-2016

I don’t know… I suppose this is “just” a standard: deep colour + great contrast (peak brightness and black level). In real (and video) terms (please correct me if I am wrong), I think it is something like: HDR = the source must be able to emit the complete (and heavy) signal; the cable should support carrying that volume of information; and, lastly, the screen has to be capable to decrypt and reproduce that data fully and faithfully.
Dell’s P2715Q: 1,07 billion colors + 1000:1 typical contrast ratio (2.000.000:1 DCR). But a 1.4 HDMI input…
