These new Nvidia GTX 980s and their range of sockets are causing problems for 3d

Hi to everyone,

I’ve joined as I have just bought a CAC 1151 Club 3d lead-mini display port to dual link DVI active 3D. I did this as having just installed two new GTX 980 graphics cards in SLI, I needed this adaptor lead for my third monitor. It’s just that 3d identical Acer 3d monitors like most 3d monitors seem to use the DVI dual link process and have built in IR emitters for 3d surround instead of display port.  Unfortunately, the GTX 980 is the first of Nvidia’s graphics cards to now only have one DVI output with the rest being [mini]display ports in preparation for 4k. So therefore, I could only connect two monitors and had to buy this Club lead/adapter for the third monitor for multi-monitor display 6160 x 1080.

Funny thing is  it worked with two 680s in SLI as they have enough DVI sockets. But having now connected up with the new graphics cards, this new Club lead is causing problems with 3d surround-doesn’t seem to like it being enabled and in the NVIDIA control panel there is a warning under HDCP status that ‘a repeater is connected and that some video applications do not support HCDP when such a repeater is present.’ Therefore not only am I struggling to get 3d with multi-monitor set up but also my built in blu-ray drive no longer works..

Anyone else had this problem and if so,  how did they resolve it?

Hi Bristone,
Sorry to hear about your problem. Did you try to roll back and try an older driver?
I think the problem is driver you are using.
Check if you can use this software to wipe out your drivers completely and reinstall.

Hi Paul,

thanks again for your thoughts. I did use driver fusion to completely clear all traces before reloading the last driver 344.11. I couldn’t use the other one as Kaspersky highlighted a possible Trojan. The result however, were still the same and the vision is still affected not only with frozen frames in 3d, but also the warning re the repeater [ Club lead] affecting video and the blu-ray player not working. Now where, I am not sure.
Regards,

Bristone.

Hi Bristone,
Can you see if you can install the drivers with the Kaspersky software disabled? Sometimes anti-virus software it does create a conflict installing graphics drivers.
Deinstall and install the driver again with the anti-virus off.

Hi again Paul,

have now tried the above, but still no joy> The Nvidia control panel still is repeater is connected to your system some applications do not support HDCP when a repeater is present. Also, Cyberlink software 3d blu-ray and associated LG blu-uray drive still not working-says failed as non HDCP compliant- was working ok when I had the two GTX 680s installed that had sufficient number of DVI sockets not to bother with display ports.. Am wondering whether anyone else has used this lead for triple monitor 3d surround and had similar problems? Also, as to whether club leads especially active ones support HDCP?

Regards,

Bristone

Hi Bristone,
Yes, the Electronic Control (CEC) supports HDCP 1.3 content protection.

Thanks for trying Paul. Certainly tried with two monitor 3d surround and it works. It’s just as soon as I connect the lead and the 3rd monitor which has worked ok without connecting it via the display port.
So, if you can think of anything else, it would be gratefully taken on board. I have been in contact with Nvidia and they have had to escalate as their not sure, I would be interested to hear whether anyone who uses AMD graphics in 3d surround has had any similar problems as their cards have display port sockets.

Hi Bristone,
As far as I know for the AMD cards we have not hear a problem but also it uses a different software for HD3D.
We keep you posted if we hear something.

Thanks Paul,
you may be aware that this has also caused HDCP problems with my Cyberlink Power DVD and when I contacted them because I tried to reinstall it, and an activation failed: note came up stating this could be pirate stuff-I’m sure they think they’re on to something big as they have escalated the matter and are not saying too much.

That is interesting. I hope they find something and can provide you the correct software in case they find the problem.
