Unable to have ext monitor be recognized with CSV-1560

Updated on 01-10-2018 in USB Type C

Bought a USB-C CSV-1560 for my Lenovo Yoga (4k configuration, 4k external HDMI monitor).
The external monitor *rarely* gets recognized by the laptop, and just works.
Without touching cables, the next day, the set-up won’t work – the Laptop does not see the external monitor at all (monitor not detected in Windows 10).  Multiple restarts etc don’t solve the issue.
A few days later, suddenly, the monitor might be recognized again.

Tried, asked colleagues to try, we can’t solve the issue.

Is there a way to diagnose at what level the problem happens?

Thanks -ivec

(mail sent to support@…)
Note that I use the CSV as my power adapter – via USB C.  So the laptop is always powered.
The mouse and keyboard that are also connected via the CSV-1560, and they always work without problem.

are the mouse and keyboard wired?

Yes: mouse and trackpad are wired by USB, via the CSV.
( and screen is connected also via the CSV, on the HDMI port )

It sounds like some sort of power (timing) issue … lets do the Firmware Update first.

I did install the lastest firmware today (traveled past few days).
Still no luck with getting an external monitor to work through the CSV.
Any ideas for next potential diagnostic steps?

Nothing other then a clean graphics driver installation. Now this will most probably not be easy with integrate Intel Graphics, but certainly worth a try.

  • Graphics Drivers

Using the upgrade feature to update Graphics drivers can cause issues, because old files can remain in the registry of windows and can be “in the way”.

Please make a new clean driver installation to make sure that part is ok.

Please uninstall the current Graphics driver and all related Graphics software like Afterburner/GPU-Z or whatever graphics related software you might have installed.

Best way to remove Driver Software is to boot Windows in Safe mode, so the registry can also be cleaned.

If your system does not allow you to do that, you can also use a program like DDU to remove such software: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/

When done, reboot and manually download and install latest available driver for your Card (don’t let any auto installer do that).
