CAC-1070 and CAC-1504 issue with Blu-ray 3D

Hi,
I can’t use these two adapters with my setup when trying to play 3D Blu-ray movie on my
HTPC. The following setup:

mainboard: Asrock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac
CPU: i5 generation 7, 7500
GPU: from CPU, Intel 630. (latest driver from February)

I wanted to use one of these adapters to get playback of my 3D Blu-ray files working.
Because the onboard conversion of DP to onboard HDMI doesn’t work correctly with
3D BD.

My Problem is, when 3D movie starts, the system wants to switch to 3D framepacking,
but the projector shows message that there is no signal. Stopping playback brings
back the picture.

Any suggestions to solve this issue?

thanks and regards

Did you try the ASRock HDMI Firmware upgrader?

I was thinking of this, because I found while searching for a solution this tool.
But there was nothing mentioned about my hardware, so was not shure if I could
do it. Beside this Asrock support was not suggesting it, but maybe will when reply
from mainsupport arrives…

Do you have experiences with it?

I don’t know what they fixed with the firmware, but it didn’t cause any new issues. I’m trying whatever I can to finally get UHD 60Hz 4:4:4.

Stefan, do you have Z170 or Z270 board?

I found the update but it is for Z170 and I found an info that the Z270
board is shipped with the 1.61 HDMI firmware, so seems the same.

Yes, the Z270 seems to have the 1.61 firmware already. I updated my ASRock J3455-ITX with the flasher from the download section of the Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac.

Hi,
thanks got it and tryed it. But nothing changed for me. Blu-ray 3D is still not
working and Cyberlink UHD advisor shows no HDR.

I am wondering why my bootloader didn’t change the version, does the version
8.xx from the firmware manual belong to another adapter?

Hi MST1407,

I just bought cac-1504 as I need to display hdr10 video with pdvd17 from xps13 9360 to LG xxUH603V 4k hdrpro=hdr10. Item is now in delivery pending.

What do you mean by “And the firmware won’t add support for HDR” ?

If you are hdmi2.0 and hdcp2.2 “drm” compliant, HDR being only a video frame protocol (dedicaded info blocks and embedded data frame), HDR should be transparent ?
Or do you mean that the FW of your DP2HDMI converter chip could interact with HDR metadata flow, and be a problem for HDR handshake ?

PS: what chip do you use (megachips, paradetech , other ?).
Thx by adv.

Hi Gizzmo, if the version did not change perhaps you already had the latest version … 0X46 …
And the firmware won’t add support for HDR

Hi Polo,
I am not sure waht the technical issue exactly, but i know that HDR doe snto work when using the CAC-170 / CAC-1170 / CAC-1504 adapter. I also know our R&D has an “open case” with regards to HDR Support and unfortunately has not been able to solve this for instance with a frimware update.

Hi MST1407

I just got cac-1504 at home, tried it, and got 3180×2160@60 working when pluging the adapter (about 10 sec with no signal, then desktop’ display fine) ,

BUT no way to switch on HDR (Display Setup “HDR and advanced colours” : when swiched “on” I get the red confirm oversplash but at the same second i see the “on” button reverting to “off”(!).

Also Cyberlink advisor also says no HDCP2.2 with the adapter ….

Hdmi cable is capable (i already got Pdvd17 playing Exodus sample in hdr 4:2:0 from my Asus GL702VM, 381.74 hdcp22’drv and latest CU.296 while direct hdmi linking to  my 43UH603V TV hdmi2.0a deep coloured port).
Also usb3.0/usb3.1/tb3 intel sw+fw installed uptodate.

So your adapter, which you said as same fw as 1070, does not pass neither HDCP2.2 nor HDR enabling, while CU.296 see “half” HDR (as it gives the option to enable, but unsuccessfully even with tv set @ 60hz 4K).

Key cac-1504 rev A0-02 fw C002 0008/v7.2b

I will contact support by mail too.

No, it was on 0x27 and that version changed, but the bootloader not
or better it didn’t change to the version shown within the firmware manual.

on 29-03-2017

Hi Gizzmo, i will ask product management to check that. But latest firmware version you received is 0x46 and that is what it shoudl ready after the update.

And more importantly … is it working for you now ?

on 30-03-2017

Blu-ray 3D is still not working for me.

Hi Gizzmo, i was trying to find content on Intel630 Graphics supporting 3D Frame Packed content … could not find anything !? Are we sure that the graphics can do it ?
And what projector are you using (and at what resoluton) ?

on 11-05-2017

you can try any full 3D content, for example, a 3D Blu-Ray disc on any Players (Kodi or PowerDVD)
You need to connect to HDMI 2.0 port on your TV or Projector
