CAC-1130-A With Apple Cinema HD Display 30”

Hi,

Coming here from an Amazon return with this forum being suggested as a means to resolve before requesting a refund.

This adapter, used with my Apple Cinema HD Display (30”) produces visual artefacts/glitches where pixels are popping random colors in short streaks all over the screen when displaying dark colours
Additionally, it does not correctly identify the monitor’s native resolution of 2560×1600, instead claiming 1280×800 to be the default, which causes the login screen to look awful

This is obviously undesirable.
I also have an official Apple Dual Link DVI to Mini Displayport Adapter which does not exhibit these issues, but does not play nice with HDCP, as which these 30” Cinema Displays do not support, so the screens go blank after initial boot
This Club 3D adapter claimed to resolve this HDCP issue, which is why I bought it, and indeed, I no longer have to re-seat the cable to get the image back, but it has the other 2 issues which are unacceptable.

Could you please advise how this can be resolved
The Startech adapter has the same problem, likely both adapters use the same chip, so it’d be great if these issues could be mitigated in a new revision?

Thanks,
Alex

Same issue as described at:

I don’t think there’s a real solution except to get the Apple adapter.

Yea, sucks to see a 3year old issue still hasn’t been resolved, bummer, but refund it is then I guess, thanks for the heads up!

And sorry to hear you’ve got the same problem 🙁

It’s likely a chipset problem with these cheaper adapters. Unfortunately, unless there’s a firmware update, you’re probably stuck with the glitch or HDCP issue.
