Club3D MST HUB 1DP-to-2DP with DVI adapter problem

I’ve got a problem with this hub, which from what I can tell from the production web page should support using a simple passive DP-to-DVI adapter when using screens that does not support DP.

The graphics card has 1DP1.2+1DVI

Currently we have a DVI screen connected to the graphics card and the HUB connected on the DP of the graphics card. Then we have a DP screen connected on the HUB and one DVI screen connected on the HUB via a DP-to-DVI adapter that can with the computer (a DELL one).

We’re seeing some strange stuff. Connecting the screens doesn’t immediately give you image on the DVI screen.

Checking the screen setup in Windows, the screen is there and it’s possible to drag windows onto it, but the screen is black.

It takes 5-10-15 MINUTES for the image to appear and once the image appears, the image quality is very poor, can also be partially “off screen” and has a static kind of flickering.

We bought two HUBs and have tried them both with same result.

We’ve tried switching the one DVI screen connected to the HUB with a DP one, which works perfectly.

We’ve tried multiple DP-to-DVI adapters to rule out they don’t work (they work fine when connected on the graphics card as well).

This is supposed to work no?

Does the passive Club3D DP-to-DVI-adapter do something differently from a regular DP-to-DVI-adapter?

Ideas?

Hi,
Sorry to hear about the problem.
Can you detail me what graphics card do you have it connected? Also please detail the display that you are using.
OS and graphics driver version will be great to have.
Last, please detail which hub do you have.
The MST Hub is a DP++ device, you can use passive adapters. Please send me also information of the adapter that you are using.

Thanks

Paul,

Graphics card: NVIDIA Quadro K620
Graphics driver: NVIDIA 2015-04-26 / 9.18.13.4807

The original graphics driver was from December 2014 so we tried updating to the version above, without any change.

OS: MS Windows 7 Pro

Hub: Multi Stream Transport (MST) Hub DisplayPort 1-2, CSV-5200 MST 1-2 DP Hub
http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/multi-stream-transport-mst-hub.1649.html

Display/screens/setup:
Graphics card->DP->Hub
1 x Dell UltraSharp U2412M (Hub->DP)
1 x Samsung SyncMaster 2443BW 24″ (Graphics card->DVI)
1 x Samsung SyncMaster 2443BW 24″ (Hub->DVI-adapter->DVI)

All set at 1920×1200 resolution.

DVI-Adapter: Dell-adapter provided with the computer – model number DANARBC084. The DP connector of this one has a “DP++” logo on it, if that’s interesting:

We also tried an older DP connector with same result:

Dear jpe, thank you for your additional information.
It’s hard to judge from the info about your setup but it seems the combination of a DP and DVI monitor connected to the hub may cause the issue. Is it possible to connect the Dell panel with a DVI adapter to the MST Hub like the Samsung panel to see if that makes any difference? Thanks!

RoyalKing: Yes, the Dell display via the DVI adapter->DVI works just fine.

We also tried only having only one of the Samsung screens connected which gave the same error.

Finally we tried an antique Dell 2007WFP from god knows when, much older than the Samsung screens and that didn’t work either, when using the native 1650×1080 resolution. Setting the resolution to a lower one, just for the sake of testing, gives image but like we first saw on the Samsung as well, the image is not aligned to the actual screen boundaries.

Hi jpe, two additional questions; have you tried either dual DP monitors connected to the MST Hub and dual DVI monitors using the same DP to DVI cables? Also, can you check what firmware version the hub is using? There is a label on the short cable of the hub mentioning itemcode and firmware version (starting with F/W). Thanks

Yes, both combinations; dual DP monitors are fine, dual DVI monitors are not working.

(Nor does 1 DVI screen alone on the HUB)

Label says A2-2 1 FW:0.45
