I have an older Mac mini (late 2012 model) where the Mini DisplayPort is still based on the old 1.1a DisplayPort specification (= maximum resolution is 1440p@60Hz; it can’t do 4K).

I would like to connect this computer to a 1440p-display via HDMI. The Mac mini has an integrated HDMI connector, but it maxes out at 1080p; if you want a higher resolution, you have to use the Mini DisplayPort connector. However, would the CAC-1170 adapter work with the Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to provide a 2560×1440@60Hz HDMI signal? Or does the adapter strictly require a 1.2 Mini DisplayPort connector?

Hi Gurgelhals,

That should work yes. DP1.1 has enough bandwidth to send 2560x1440p at 60Hz over and the adapter can certainly do that.
