The ANX7688 was discussed on page 1 and page 3 of this thread.

The ANX7688 supports 1 or 2 lane DisplayPort 1.3. DisplayPort 1.2 (HBR2) requires 4 lanes for 4K 60Hz. You would need a 2 lane DisplayPort 1.3 to 4 lane DisplayPort 1.2 converter for most monitors to go with this.

Club 3d does not make the chips. Some third party chip manufacturer will make the chip, and every adapter manufacturer will use it. I don’t know if Club 3d has the power to get a chip manufacturer to create a new solution for a problem.

There aren’t many adapter manufacturers that have a forum like this though so that’s why we’re talking about it here. plugable.com is one such other. Some companies may have a blog, but user’s can’t add new topics.

The ANX7688 features page says it uses DP 1.3 (HBR2.5) to achieve 3840x2160p60 with 2 lanes. So how difficult is it to convert a two lane DP 1.3 signal to a 4 lane DP 1.2 signal?

HBR2.5 is not described in the wikipedia document: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort
HBR2.5 appears to be exactly half way between HBR2 and HBR3 to achieve the 6.75Gbps per lane that the ANX7688 features page specifies. If my math is correct, then that only allows 450MHz 8bpc (RGB or 4:4:4) using CVT-RB timing but 4K 60Hz 8bpc (RGB or 4:4:4) requires 533MHz.

I know of one reason to use the slower (4K 30Hz) HDMI to DisplayPort adapters.

I bought two of those slower adapters from two different manufacturers which I can use with a DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter to connect an old 30″ 2560×1600 Dual Link DVI display to HDMI 1.4 ports or some Single Link DVI ports that support HDMI 1.4 speeds because noone makes a HDMI 1.4 to Dual Link DVI adapter that actually outputs a Dual Link signal.

But 4K 60Hz would be even better because it would work for that first case, and also the case where I might want to connect a DisplayPort display to an HDMI port. For example, I have a motherboard that has 3 built in graphics ports: one DisplayPort, one HDMI 2.0, and one Thunderbolt 3. If I wanted to connect 3 identical DisplayPort only 4K 60Hz displays then I would need a HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort adapter for one of the displays.
