1507 USB-C to DP work at MBP 2016, but not work at MBP 2017

I bought CAC-1507 for MacBook Pro 2016 13′ with Touch Bar and connect 4K display via DP cable, it just fine.

But when I connect that on MacBook Pro 2017 15′, there are no any signal on Display.

Also, I connect via iMac 21.5′ 2017, the Display no signal too.

Is this adapter doesn’t support 2017 Apple Mac?
Or this adapter doesn’t support AMD GPU?

Good day mrgaolei,
Sorry to hear this.

They all use the same OS ?

on 20-06-2017

Both MBP 2016 and 2017, the USB Type-C interface are all Thunderbolt 3 + USB 3.1 compatible.

MBP 13′ 2016 + macOS 10.12.5 = OK
MBP 13′ 2016 + macOS 10.13 beta = OK

MBP 15′ 2017 + macOS 10.12.5 = not work
MBP 15′ 2017 + macOS 10.13 beta = not work

iMac 21′ 2017 + macOS 10.12.5 = not work

So, I think this problem not care of OS version.

My MBP 13′ 2016’s GPU is Intel, works fine.
But MBP 15′ 2017 and iMac 21′ 2016’s GPU is AMD,
So, did this device support AMD’s GPU?

Hi mrgaolei,
The CAC-1507 is a passive USB C to DP adapter.
To be able to send  a video signal over USB C it needs to support Displayport Alternade Mode. This is why this adapter can be passive, because there is no actual signal conversion, more like a gender changer, but then in very High Quality to be able to support such high resolution/frequency.

I do not know what Apple changed causing this not to work anymore, but i do know it does not have anything to with the AMD GPU inside.

So, will you test 1507 on 2017 Mac Devices?
And how can I help for your test?

on 21-06-2017

I have send your findings over to our technicians and asked them if they know …
will feedback as soon as i can ..

Your system with AMD Graphics does see the screen connected ?

After I install macOS 10.13 beta2 on MBP 15″ 2017, this adapter works fine…..

I haven’t test on 2017 iMac, I will response you after I tested.

2017 iMac 21.5″ with macOS 10.12.5 can’t use this.
I think 10.12.6 will fix it.

I will continue response result.

Thanks a lot for the feedback

I can confirm, the CAC-1507 DOES NOT work with a 15″ MBP 2017 and a NEC Spectraview 271 display, whereas with a 15″ MBP 2016 it DOES work. Both have the current Sierra 10.12.5 installed.

Is there a chance that Cub 3D somehow fixes the adapter or do I have to wait for Apple to fix their OS (or join the beta software program respectivly)?

Hi rsplaul,
We have an “open case” running at R&D to try and find out the cause of this, which is necessary before we can come upwith a possible solution. Having said this, the frequency with which Apple now-a-days comes out with OS updates, makes this process very complicated. It is therefore likely that an Apple OS fix will be faster …
Sorry for the inconvenience

No worries. 🙂

I just installed 10.12.6 Beta (16G24b) (“Public Beta Version 5”) and suddenly everything works. In fact, it also works with a Thunderbolt – DP cable from another vendor, which also seemed broken before the OS update.

Can anyone confirm that the issue is fixed in the recent final release of 10.12.6?

on 24-07-2017

Hi rsplaul,

As far as we vcould test it and have had feedback for users, OS 10.12.6 Beta seems to fix all the “non-working” issues on MAC’s 2017 build that we know of.

on 24-07-2017

I will try tonight.

on 24-07-2017

I tried it and can confirm, the final 10.12.6 works as well.

on 24-07-2017

thank a lot for the feedback 🙂

on 24-07-2017

I tested too, it works fine.
