DisplayPort Oculus Rift S extension cable

Hello,

recently I’ve purchased a Club3d 5m DisplayPort extension cable
https://www.club-3d.com/en/detail/2464/displayport_1.4_hbr3_8k_cable_m-m_5m_-16.40ft/

I wanted to use it as an extension cable for Oculus Rift S. However I’m having trouble getting it to work — Oculus notices the connection for a moment but then fails to connect.

My question is whether this was an appropriate cable for such a setup, or whether I need something else? Is the purchased cable active DP? Have you tried this kind of a setup with this cable internally?

Thanks!

Hello Pete,

Would you mean the CAC-1022

https://www.club-3d.com/en/detail/2473/displayport_1.4_hbr3_extension_cable_8k60hz_m-f_2m-6.56ft/

the link you send is the CAC-1061 i do not think this is the cable you mean?

in case of the CAC-1022 this is a passive cable. It has been tested on the Oculus and the Valve index.

May i ask with what computer it is used? it might be a lack of output power surge of the connected port.

I’m bought the linked cable (CAC-1061) as I need 5m extension, and the CAC-1022 is only 2m. Then I used a F/F DP coupler to connect it with the Oculus cable… is this setup not correct?

I am using GTX1060, and the cable was plugged directly into the card.

Hi pete,

for refrence what is the f/f dp coupler? is this an extention cable? the CAC-1061 is a normal HDMI cable of 5 meters. i have a feeling the problem lays with the F/F dp coupler as you call it. do you have a website link of that device ?

This is the coupler I’ve used https://www.lindy.co.uk/cables-adapters-c1/audio-video-c107/female-to-female-displayport-coupler-p2528

All 5m+ displayport cables that I found on various websites were only M/M so I assumed this is the standard way to connect them.

Hi pete,

could you describe your entire setup.

I presume there is a displayport cable from the gtx1060 to the F/F connector (the CAC-1061?) and from the F/F connector the DP cable from the Oculus rift s? how long is this setup? in general DP cables have problems delivering data if a cable setup exceeds 7 meters, this is due to power.

Hi….I have a GTX 970 and a 750W power supply so I think they are ok. I used a HDMI extender on the Rift and it was great. I just need o find one that works with the Rift S because the wife will play it more since no sensors to set up if she can just open the desk and plug the headset into the extensions.

Hello Florajay.

take a look at the forlowing item the CAC-1320 of club-3d. This hdmi extention cable should work perfectly fine with the Rift S.
