How to HDMI to DP 4k@60Hz

Hello,

I am having trouble getting 4K@60Hz to my Philips Monitor.

I am owning a GTX Graphics card with HDMI 2.0 outputs, a AV Receiver with HDMI 2.0 outputs, and a monitor with HDMI 1.4 inputs and Displayport 1.2 inputs.

Only the DP input of the monitor supports 4K@60Hz.

So, basically, what I need is a HDMI 2.0 between the GPU and the Receiver, and then a HDMI 2.0 to Displayport 1.2 adapter between the receiver and the monitor.

But it look like there is no such thing as a HDMI to DP 4K@60Hz Adapter !

So what I need is someone that knows how to build such an adapter to tell me, or to build it and send it to me, or to tell me how I can transform a DP to HDMI adapter into a HDMI to DP one.

Anyone ?

Hi ParanormalBanana, thank you for joining our forum!

It’s an interesting question and interesting setup! But if you own a GTX card with HDMI 2.0 it must be a GTX 950, 960, 970 or 980 Maxwell card.

Since the converter you look for (HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2) does not exist to our knowledge (we’re only aware of HDMI 1.4 to DP 1.2, enabling 4K 30Hz) the easiest solution would be to skip HDMI to DP part completely and connect your Philips monitor direct from a DP output on the card.

Note that this sort of conversion is highly sophisticated and most likely not achievable using DiY components and tools.

Hi RoyalKing, thank you for your response.

Of course, I have, for now, connected my monitor directly to the card via DisplayPort, since I cannot live without 60Hz, and 1920×1080, and even 2560×1440 really look blurry on this huge 40″ monitor…

But it forces me to use HDMI only for sound, which isn’t the best with compatibility since Nvidia doesn’t allow sound without picture so I have to send out a fake second monitor to my receiver in order to get the amazing sound I have paid for, and it really is a pain.

It also forces me to have to switch inputs on the monitor, when I want to use the receiver only and watch TV or play the PlayStation, instead of just switching on the receiver with the remote and well, it’s kind of annoying too, since the controls on this monitor aren’t the fastest to use.

Of course, i’d gladly sell my receiver and buy me a new one with DisplayPort, but it seems those only come with HDMI 2.0 these days. And it’s a Sony STR-DN860 which really looks amazing in my living room. lol

Thanks anyway for the reply !

Also, about the HDMI 1.4 To DP that does exist, I have wondered. I read on the internet that Nvidia allowed Maxwell cards to send 4k@60Hz via HDMI 1.4, using a 4:2:0 color compressed signal.

So, I tried to connect that maxwell card of mine via HDMI 1.4, but it only allowed 30Hz.

Then I thought maybe such an adapter, since connected to the DP in of my monitor, would report to the card a 60Hz compatibility, allowing me to switch to 4:2:0 60Hz in the control panel.

Is this possible ?

Unfortunately we have no recent Nvidia cards here to test with so we can’t replicate your setup.

4K @ 60Hz, even if it would be in 4:2:0, is very unlikely for HDMI 1.4 though! None of us have seen such a configuration work.

Is there no alternative way to route the sound towards your receiver?

We can’t think of any other option to try in your situation. It’s possible that an HDMI 2.0 to DP (1.3 maybe) converter will be introduced at some point but nothing has been confirmed so far.
