CSV-1460: no WQHD (2560×1440) besides 3840×2160 (4K)?

With my Full HD notebooks 4K @60 Hz works well with the CSV-1460 DP

into the CAC-1070 with a

High Speed HDMI 2.0 18 Gbit/s cable of 3 m length

into the TV 🙂

 

Now I have a question about the nearest lower resolution.

I am wondering why I cannot switch down from 3840×2160 (4K) resolution to 2560×1440 (WQHD).

Next to 4K the menu of the CSV-1460 offers only the following resolutions:

    • [2048×1 152]

    • [1920×1440]

    • 1920×1080

    • (… and a lot of lower resolutions)

These three are Full HD – or close to Full HD.

Full HD is a fourth of 4K, so too huge a step down from 4K.

I would like to use 2560×1440 temporarily.

 

I have this use case when GUI elements of certain programs are too small on the 4K screen.

Now, it is possible to adjust the size of elements in Windows 8.1.

But there are two drawbacks with temporarily increasing the scale to 125% or 150%:

    • Logging off is required to make the change effective

    • The Full HD screen of the notebook then also increases the size of elements so everything is way too big for my taste (and the notebook screen supports no higher resolution than Full HD).

From several threads in different forums I take that you simply cannot adjust the scale percentage independently for separate screens with Windows 8.1.
(Windows 10 is said to support this, but I don’t plan to upgrade any time soon for other reasons.)

 

I assume that the CSV-1460 supports 2560×1440.

4K screens typically support that lower resolution as well, as far as I know.

I don’t get why the menu does not show this resolution.

 

How could I make use of 2560×1440 with the setup described above?

Good day,
It is not all that common that 4K screens also support 2560×1600. Most of them do indeed support 1080p but not always 1600p.

Which screen do you have ?

I’m surprised, but you are right. According to the manual the Philips 65PUS7601 does not support any resolution between 4K and FHD. It was just my assumption that it supports 2560×1440. Because of that (100% sure 😉 assumption I did never even consider to consult the manual …

Now I have learned to check any desired lower resolutions of future screens before buying 🙂

And I assume with a 4K screen that also supports 2560×1440 I could make use of that resolution with the CSV-1460 and the setup described above.
Please correct me, if I’m wrong.

yes you could indeed.
