Firmware CSV-5300H

Updated on 09-05-2017 in MST Hub

Hi, how can I get the newest firmware for CSV-5300H?

I have two LG 55UH650V TVs and try to get them running with the CSV-5300H. Graphic card is AMD Sapphire R9-280X with two miniDP ports. Radeon software is 17.x (have to look yet).

One single TV is running with the MST but as soon as I connect the second one, it shows no picture. MiniDP ports, TVs and 1,5m HDMI cables have been cross-checked, they are all okay. System is Windows 7/64-bit.

Any suggestions besides firmware update of CSV-5300H?

Kind regards, WSB

Is here anybody? No replies after two days? Still no answer from support after writing two e-mails? Maybe there’s no actual freeware but I need to know that…

Addition: my two LG UHD TVs have HDMI 2.0a standard. I’ve tested the MST CSV-5300H with three FullHD beamers and it’s working perfect. With one LG TV it’s running perfect. With two LG TVs there’s no picture. Don’t know what to do now…

Why do the TVs not recognize the HDMI 1.4 signals from the hub – is HDMI 2.0 not compatible to 1.4? I’m not an expert so help is very welcome.

How can I solve the problem? Shall I connect both TVs directly to both miniDP outputs of the GPU? And is it possible to get a 4x TV eyefinity setup with two identical GPUs?

Suggestions very appreciated. Thank you.

Hello WSB,
Sorry for the delay. We have had some bank holidays here.

It sounds to me you are trying to get 2 x 4K 60Hz screens runnning of a single DP 1.2 ouput. That will not fit. An MST Hub is a handy tool to connect more screens to a single DP1.2 output, but it does not increase the bandwidth of the DP ouput.

Each Displayport 1.2 ouput has enough bandwidth for:
1 x 3840x2160P 60Hz
2 x 2560x1600p 60Hz + 1 x 1920x10880p 60Hz

If you want to connect two 4K screens to a R9 280X i would advise this:
2 x CAC-1170 = Active Mini Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 Adapter

Hello MST1407,

thanks for replying and also for the link to an actual firmware for the MST hub. Is it possible to get a zip-file instead of Dropbox link? I don’t have a dropbox account.

I know about the bandwith range of DP 1.2 output and that’s the reason why I wanted to run two UHD TVs with Windows display settings at FullHD 1920x1080p. Unfortunately without success.

I’ve tested both UHD TVs connected to the MST and my tiny Intel NUC i3 computer – here it works perfectly: no matter if I connect one, two or three TVs, each configuration runs smoot and stable. With the R9-280X it doesn’t work with the two UHD TVs. But when I’m using only FullHD displays it also works with the R9-280X. Very strange.

Relating your suggestion on CAC-1170: is it possible to create an Eyefinity group with both TVs via the two CAC-1170 adapters? And what do you suggest when I want to run four UHD TVs in one Eyefinity group? A second R9-280x and a total of four CAC-1170?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards, WSB

It should certainly work on the R9 280X … sounds like a software issue to me.
Did you try with a clean driver installation ?

  • AMD Drivers

Especially when using the upgrade feature to update drivers can give issues, because old files can remain in the registry of windows and can be “in the way”. Please make a new clean driver installation to make sure that part is ok. I know AMD made many driver updates after that, however most aimed at RX400 series only. I do hear end-users with R9 200/300 series Cards reporting that from 16.12.2 (or later) also works quite decent for them. Please uninstall the current Graphics driver and all related Graphics software like Afterburner/GPU-Z or whatever graphics related software you might have installed. Best way to remove Driver Software is to boot Windows in Safe mode, so the registry can also be cleaned. When you system does not allow you to do that, you can also use a program like DDU to remove such software: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/

Reboot and manually download and install 16.8.3 graphics driver (don’t let auto installer from Windows do that)  You can find here:  http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous/detail?os=Windows%2010%20-%2064&rev=16.8.3
or
a newer version if you prefer … but please do not use any driver from 16.9.1 ~ 16.12.1; here you can find listing of drivers …
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous?os=Windows%2010%20-%2064

After this,
First connect 1 TV, set the Resolution to 1080p 60Hz in windows. Then connect second one and do the same.

Yes you can still use Eyefinity while using the CAC-1070 / CAC-1170 Adapters.
To connect 4 x 4K TV to 1 system in 4K resoltuion will require you to have access to 4 x DisplayPort 1.2 ouputs. So you will need 2 x R9 280X for instance and i would adivise use od 4 x CAC-1170 to convert to HDMI2.0

I will ask Support to send you firmware file by “we tranfer”, you don’t need an account for that.

Many thanks for the detailed suggestions. First I’ll make a complete new Windows installation to have all old stuff deleted. Maybe some old driver fragments have been remained on the actual system indeed. Last AMD version installed is 17.4.3.

Kind regards, WSB

Hello,
firmware update seems not to work properly:

After successful ” Refresh” detection of the graphics adapter when I click “Get FW Version” the software tells me “Port#2 Device: Failed to get connection”

What shall I do now?

Can someone tell me what to do, please? Firmware update CSV-5300H doesn’t work properly, there’s an error message for Port#2 device: Failed to get connection. I need the MST and want to be sure not to do something wrong. Thank you.

Hi WSB,
I will have that firmware and updater program checked out here to see if we can duplicate and find out what wrong.
How many screens did you connect while updating and to which ouput ?
If only 1 screens please conenct to the middle output on the Hub.

on 08-05-2017

There has been only one screen connected to the middle output of the MST as suggested in your manual. I’ll connect three screens tonight and try again.
Thanks so far, I’ll reply.

Hello,
as expected no success with connecting three identical HDMI 1.4 displays to all output ports… the error message still exists. So two possibilities: firmware update does not work properly or device is out of order = hardware error. Second possibility would explain not to get more than one TV running. I need my CSV-5300H for work so urgent help is needed.

We finished testing here ourselves.

We did also get an error on the second Port “failed to connect” and also during update procedure it gave an error at the end that it has not been able to update the second port.

What is even stranger is that it does work well. We got picture on all 3 screens in 1080p 60Hz without even have to do any display settings.

I will send issue to R&D to check on what going on with that updater program, so that can be fixed.

Meanwhile if you connect 2 screens you are not using the second port (is the 3rd HDMI output) so i don’t think that this is where the problem comes from.

Please try this.

Connect MST Hub to Graphics Card with Mini-Dp to DP Adapter that came with the MST Hub.

Connect first TV and turn on. Boot system and set the screen to 1080p 60Hz in windows display settings.

Only after this is working connect second TV and turn it on. Press the reset button on the back of the HUB, it will now build up new video connection.

After the TV’s have recognized the incoming signal from HDMI, Windows should now see also the second TV, set it to 1080p 60 Hz in
